60 year 8 pupils had a marvellous opportunity to take part in a science, technology. Maths and engineering event (STEM). Pupils looked at all aspects of engineering in real life situations and looked at routes into engineering form a careers perspective. Pupils had the opportunity to build miniature solar powered cars and look at how they can make them travel the furthest. This required thinking skills, team work and applying what they had been taught. Each session lasted for three lessons and all of the pupils had the opportunity to talk and interact with a visiting engineer. All the pupils displayed many of our KASE curriculum aims – problem solving, superb oracy skills, willing to take risks and try things out even when they did not appear to work and many of them will be championing green causes in a project that could potentially benefit future towns and cites.
